Prompt Cheat Sheet

Your 4-step formula for getting great results from AI. Print this poster and stick it on your wall!

1

ASK

Start with a clear request
The Role + Task Formula
Act as [role]. [Task]. [Details].
"Act as a science tutor. Explain photosynthesis in 3 bullet points for a Year 8 student."
The Context Formula
I am [who]. I need [what] for [why].
"I am a Year 10 student. I need a summary of Romeo and Juliet Act 3 for my revision notes."
Tip: Be specific. "Write something about space" is weak. "Explain 3 ways the ISS recycles water" is strong.
2

REFINE

Make it better with follow-ups
The Tweak Formula
Make it [simpler / shorter / more formal].
"Make it simpler — I need to understand this for my Year 7 homework."
The Format Formula
Rewrite as [table / list / poem / code].
"Rewrite that as a comparison table with two columns: Advantages and Disadvantages."
Tip: You can always say "try again" or "give me a different version." AI won't mind!
3

CHECK

Never trust AI blindly
The Verify Formula
Is this accurate? What sources support this?
"Are these dates correct? Can you tell me where I could verify this information?"
The Bias Check
What's missing? What's the other side?
"You only gave positives of social media. What are the negative effects on teens?"
Tip: AI can "hallucinate" — it makes things up that sound real. Always double-check facts.
4

CREATE

Use AI as your creative partner
The Brainstorm Formula
Give me [number] ideas for [topic].
"Give me 5 original ideas for a geography project about climate change in coastal cities."
The Build Formula
Help me create [thing] step by step.
"Help me create a revision timetable for my GCSEs. I have 8 subjects and 4 weeks."
Tip: AI gives you a starting point. Your job is to make it yours — add your own ideas and voice.

The Golden Rule

AI is a tool, not a replacement for your brain. Use it to learn faster, think deeper, and create better — but always put in your own effort.
