What It Does
Descript treats audio and video editing like document editing. It transcribes your recording, and you edit by editing the transcript—delete a sentence of text and the corresponding audio/video is removed. It handles filler word removal ("um", "uh", "like"), AI voice cloning for corrections, screen recording, multi-track editing, and podcast production. If you can use a word processor, you can edit a podcast with Descript.
Setup in 5 Minutes
or use the browser version.
- The free tier includes one hour of transcription and basic editing.
- Import an audio or video file; Descript transcribes it
automatically.
- Edit the transcript—every change is reflected in the media
timeline.
Try This
Record a two-minute voice memo explaining a concept you are studying.
Import it into Descript. Use the Remove filler words feature to
clean up "ums" and "uhs" automatically. Delete any off-topic tangent
by highlighting the text and pressing Delete. Export the cleaned audio.
Compare the before and after—you have edited a recording without
touching a waveform.
Follow Along
Follow Along — Create a Podcast Episode.
to clean up every "um", "uh", and "you know" in one step.
- Add chapter markers at each new subtopic by inserting section headers in the transcript.
- Export as MP3 and copy the cleaned transcript as show notes—you have produced a publish-ready podcast episode.
