What It Does
A Chinese-developed open-weight AI assistant whose reasoning model (DeepSeek-R1) rivals leading Western models on maths and coding benchmarks. The web chat is free with no daily limits, and the underlying models are available for download, making DeepSeek a notable example of open-source AI development.
Setup in 5 Minutes
and click Sign Up.
- Register with your email address or use Google sign-in.
- Verify your email with the code sent to your inbox.
- On the chat screen, use the toggle at the top to switch between
DeepSeek-V3 (fast general chat) and DeepThink
(R1) (slower chain-of-thought reasoning).
- Type your prompt and press Enter. In DeepThink mode, you can
expand the Thinking section to see the model's
step-by-step reasoning before the final answer.
Try This
Switch to DeepThink mode and ask "A bat and a ball cost £1.10
in total. The bat costs £1.00 more than the ball. How much does the
ball cost? Show your working." Read the chain-of-thought to see how
the model reasons through the classic cognitive reflection test.
Follow Along
Follow Along — Solve a Maths Problem Set.
mode and paste all 5 problems in one message.
- Expand the Thinking section for each answer and follow the reasoning step by step.
- Check every line of working against your own solutions—mark any step where the model skips logic or makes an arithmetic error.
- For any problem DeepSeek got wrong, reply: "Your answer to problem 3 is incorrect. Try again and show every intermediate step."
